Corbetta Suite in D
Transcribed for guitar by Mark Viggiani
Series Phoenix TMV 012
Corbetta was arguably the greatest of the 17th century Italian guitarists. This suite is taken from his masterpiece La Guitare Royalle (1671). His music is extremely idiosyncratic, and takes full advantage of his instrument’s resources. This transcription endeavors to translate Corbetta’s personal style to the modern instrument, whilst retaining the originals’ lightness and unique character. Also included are notes on ornamentation and interpretation.
Movements: Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Chacone.
